A quickie

I got home late yesterday afternoon and only had about an hour of good light left. I had been trying to get to my paints all day but my work just got in the way! I don't like painting under artificial light, so I did a little quick 6x8 and finished it just as my light was fading.

This painting looks a little lighter on my monitor than it actually is; it is really rather dark. I named it "Last light" as it is a scene I often see as I drive home when the sun is setting, catching the tops of the mountains with the last rays. I thought the name was appropriate as I painted it with the last light too.

  1. It's a really nice piece. I like the way you've caught the light on the mountains.

  2. Thanks, I wish I could have got a better photo. Everything below the snow is really much darker, and as a result, the light effect on the actual painting is even stronger as there is more contrast. I took too different sets of photos. Maybe after it is dry; it could be the glare off the wet paint.

  6. It is really beautiful, Joanne. My mountain views disappear in summer when the trees are full across the road from my house. They are great in the winter though.

  7. Thanks Carol and Janice! I don't have a lot of mountain views from my house, but there are plenty everywhere else. Our leaves are finally popping out. All it takes is a couple of warm days, but we haven't had many, and here it is June already! I am going to plant flowers and paint today....a good day for both.

  9. Joanne, Beautiful painting. I agree that the mountains hold special beauty. It is fascinating to watch the light change on them throughout the day.

  10. I hate to see the snow leave them in the summer. Some years we still have snow in July, but I doubt it will last that long this year. It is melting quickly.
